Judge Extends Deadline For Carnation Killings Case

SEATTLE —

King County Prosecutor Dan Satterberg now has until Sept. 22 to decide whether to seek the death penalty against a couple charged in the slayings of six people in rural Carnation last Christmas Eve.

King County Superior Court Judge Jeffrey Ramsdell on Thursday extended the deadline from Aug. 4.

Michele Anderson and Joseph McEnroe have pleaded not guilty to slaughtering six members of Anderson's family, but Anderson has said she committed the crimes and wants to be executed. They each are charged with six counts of aggravated first-degree murder, the only crime in the state that can bring the death penalty.

The judge recently allowed Anderson to fire her attorneys. On Friday he said he would allow two weeks for new counsel to be appointed.
