King County Opening $1.8B Sewage Treatment Plant

King County is showing off its new Brightwater sewage treatment plant with a public open house Saturday at the plant near Woodinville.

It took five years to build. At $1.8 billion it's the most expensive project in county history.

Treated wastewater will be pumped through a 13-mile tunnel to Puget Sound at Edmonds.

According to the Seattle Times, a city council analysis suggests that by 2030, Seattle ratepayers will pay $320 million more than they should for sewage system improvements for Brightwater and other projects.
