Kitsap Passenger-Only Ferry Service Ends

BREMERTON, Wash. —

Passenger-only ferry service between Bremerton and Seattle has ended.

The service ended Friday after two and a half years of providing morning and evening roundtrips between Bremerton and Seattle. At least 350 people used the service daily, paying $7 each way.

Kitsap Ferry owner Greg Dronkert said he had to suspend service because of low ridership, high fuel prices and competition from Washington state Ferries' fare-free eastbound service.

Kitsap Transit paid for docking space, fuel and the boat lease. However, the agency pulled out of the partnership after voters rejected its proposal to raise local taxes to pay for the system.
