PUYALLUP, Wash. —
There's no need to worry if you hear lahar warning sirens in Pierce County Wednesday morning; it's just a test.
The siren will sound for about 10 seconds at McAlder Elementary School at 10 a.m.
It's the newest siren added to the system in the Puyallup River Valley that is designed to warn people in the event of a lahar, or volcanic mud flow, from Mount Rainier.
People who live within a one-mile radius of the siren should receive automated phone messages from Emergency Management about the test before the drill takes place.
