Large Fight, Shots Fired At Southcenter Mall

TUKWILA, Wash. —

A large fight at the Southcenter Mall in Tukwila Sunday evening ended with shots fired.

According to Tukwila police spokesperson Mike Murphy, at about 5:30 p.m., Southcenter mall security saw a group of eight to 10 teenagers congregating in the mall parking lot.

It was believed a fight was brewing and the officers attempted to disband the group.

Members of the group indicated they were gang members and tried to intimidate mall security officers, police said. Security backed off and called for Tukwila Police Officers working off-duty at the mall.

As the officers responded to the area, the group scattered and shots were fired. The shots were not directed at law enforcement.

Mutual aid was requested from adjoining cities. Police from Renton, Kent and Des Moines helped Tukwila police detain six juveniles, including one 15-year-old armed with a pistol.

The other five teens were detained and interviewed.

While processing the crime scene, two more loaded pistols were recovered on the ground in the parking lot.

There were no injuries reported.

Police say the gunmen have made claims of gang affiliation.

Witnesses from the group have not been fully cooperative with investigators.

Anyone with information about this incident should call the Tukwila Police Department at 206-433-1808.
