PORT TOWNSEND, Wash. —
Portions of State Route 20 in Port Townsend are shut down due to a large water main break early Sunday morning, police said.
Police and Port Townsend Public Works crews responded to a report of a water main break around 3 a.m. in front of the Tides Inn and Suites at 1807 Water Street.
When crews arrived to the location, they found water running down the road.
One business was damaged due to water rushing into the building.
SR 20 between Washington Street and the Port Townsend ferry terminal was closed.
“Citizens may notice some dirt or slight discoloring of their water,” said Ian Jablonski, city water resource manager. “Water pressure was not lost in the transmission lines, so no water boil advisory is necessary at this time.”
Police said drivers should anticipate the closure to extend throughout Sunday, and possibly into the week.
The closure will affect commuters traveling the Port Townsend-Coupeville ferry route.
Detour routes for ferry traffic have been set up through city streets.
Commuters are advised to plan for additional travel time to their destinations.
