KENT, Wash. —

In a three-month operation dubbed "Down in the Valley," or Operation DIVA, authorities arrested dozens of suspects and took guns and drugs off the street.

The operation focused on a 20-mile area in south King County including Kent, Tukwila and Renton.

Some of the items seized in the bust were 28 guns of all shapes and included shotguns, rifles and pistols.

Police said a Tacoma man who was arrested for trying to sell weapons to undercover officers had four guns on him, including one with an extended magazine.   If convicted, he could be sentenced to a minimum of 15 years in federal prison.

In all, 33 people were arrested, and in addition to the guns, $1 million worth of drugs was confiscated.

U.S. Attorney Jenny Durkan said the operation involved several federal and local law enforcement agencies.

“Our officers and confidential informants focused on getting guns off the streets, and one of the good things we learned in this is that people are reluctant to sell guns because there was so much heat on guns from law enforcement,” said Durkan in Kent on Tuesday.

The bust is the second such operation that federal authorities have put together in the last year.

In White Center last October, more than 50 arrests were made.
