Leaking Whale-Watching Vessel Evacuated

Twenty people were evacuated from a leaking whale-watching vessel near Lopez Island Tuesday afternoon, the Coast Guard said.

Vessel Assist and Good Samaritan boaters transferred passengers from the Western Prince to another boat that took them back to Friday Harbor, where the 46-foot whale-watching vessel is based.

The Western Prince was in Cattle Pass, near Lopez Island, when it began taking on water at about 1 p.m.

The leak was patched, and the boat appeared to be saved.
