Lewis County Man Fatally Shoots Intruder

TOLEDO, Wash. —

A Lewis County man fatally shot a burglar who entered his home late Tuesday night, sheriff's detectives told KIRO 7 Eyewitness News.

The burglar, a man in his 50s, entered the home in the 100 block of Mulford Road in Toledo at about 10:40 p.m., detectives said.

The 62-year-old homeowner woke up after hearing a noise that led him to believe someone was trying to break into his home. Detectives said he heard someone coming up the stairs. The homeowner told the burglar to "freeze," but the burglar continued to advance. The homeowner repeated the command, the burglar continued to advance, and the homeowner shot him, the sheriff's office said.

The burglar was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The Lewis County Sheriff's Office is investigating the shooting with some assistance from the Washington State Patrol.
