LAKEWOOD, Wash. —
Lifeguards pulled a 27-year-old man from American Lake in Lakewood and medics took him to the hospital Friday afternoon in the second water safety incident at the lake in two days.
KIRO 7 Eyewitness News reporter Alison Grande said officials told her that the man had a weak pulse as he was being taken to St. Claire Hospital. There was no immediate word on his condition.
The rescue came a day after another man drowned at the lake.
Record high temperatures brought 21-year-old Zach Berry to American Lake with friends to go boating on Thursday.
Investigators said he discovered that he had forgotten something in his truck at the boat launch. He was about 100 feet away so he jumped in and planned to swim to shore.
Later, when he didn't come back, his friends got concerned and called 911.
Divers found Berry's body in 12 feet of water about 30 yards off shore.
"He was a great person. He touched the lives of so many people," his fiancée told Grande.
Firefighters said life jackets are for sale at Pierce County fire stations for $12.
