Melissa Baum, whose daughter, Lindsey Baum, disappeared in September 2009 at the age of 11, talked with KIRO 7 South Sound Bureau Chief Richard Thompson on Monday about the Sky Metalwala case and shared some of her insights on what it's like to be a parent searching for a missing child.

"It's heartbreaking," Melissa Baum said of the Metalwala case. "I pray for his return every day."

It's been nearly two and a half years since Lindsey vanished while walking home from a friend's house in McCleary. Police are still investigating and even served search warrants as recently as this month, but still no sign of Lindsey.

"My child is out there somewhere and I'm gonna fight until I find her," Melissa Baum said.

She's now also keeping an eye on the search for Sky Metalwala. She said she's encouraged to see Sky's father, Solomon Metalwala, out in the media, handing out flyers and trying to spread the word about his son's disappearance.

"I think what Sky's father is doing is what needs to be done," Melissa Baum said.

Her advice for Sky's mother, Julia Biryukova?

"It would be to cooperate with law enforcement fully," Melissa Baum said. "I think that's very important."

She also said she'd like to see Biryukova take a lie detector test soon, just like she did when Lindsey vanished.

"I took it immediately; I didn't hesitate," Melissa Baum said. "I didn't want any time wasted looking at me."

She said that as a mother of a missing child, she can't understand why Biryukova is not working with police.

"I don't understand it, but she's got her reasons," Melissa Baum said. "I hope it's not that she's hiding something. That would be terrible."

Baum said she will never give up searching for her daughter, and she now prays those who love Sky Metalwala will also get answers soon.

"It all boils down to Sky is missing and he needs to be found," Baum said. "I mean, he's a beautiful little boy and my heart just breaks at the case."
