Line Reopens After Amtrak Derailment In Tacoma

TACOMA, Wash —

Train service has been restored through Tacoma, after one car on an Amtrak passenger train derailed Friday.

Nobody was injured in the derailment, which occurred just after noon about one-quarter mile north of the Tacoma train station. The train was headed from Portland to Seattle.

Burlington Northern Santa Fe spokesman Gus Melonas says the line was reopened at 6:15 p-m Friday, and the derailment's cause remains under investigation.

The train was traveling less than 10 miles per hour when the derailment occurred. Passengers were taken off the train and bused to Seattle.
