Washington Poll shows liquor privatization initiative leading

SEATTLE —

A new poll out Monday gives a preview of what to expect in next week's election.

The Washington Poll, conducted by researchers at the University of Washington, shows that two of the state's most widely discussed initiatives are very close.

See the summary of results.

The poll shows more than 50 percent of voters questioned support Initiative 1183, which would get the state out of the liquor business. Fewer than 43 percent opposed it. Nearly 7 percent are still undecided.

An initiative that would restrict tolling to pay for new transportation projects -- Initiative 1125 -- is very close, with 41 percent supporting it and 40% opposing.  Nearly 19 percent are undecided.

The people surveyed said the economy, the recession and jobs are the biggest issues on the minds of voters headed into next week's election.

In the 2012 governor's race, 45 percent of voters supported Republican Rob McKenna and 38 percent supported Democrat Jay Inslee.

Researchers spoke by phone with 938 registered voters. The margin of error is 3.2 percent.
