JOINT BASE LEWIS-McCHORD, Washington —

A Joint Base Lewis-McChord soldier was killed in Afghanistan on Wednesday, becoming the third JBLM soldier to be killed in that country in the last week.

Spc. Sterling W. Wyatt, of Columbia, Missouri, was 21 years old.

Wyatt died of wounds suffered when his vehicle was hit by an improvised explosive device in Kandahar Province, JBLM officials said. He arrived at JBLM in March 2011 and was sent on his first deployment in December 2011.

Wyatt’s death brings the total number of JBLM soldiers killed in Afghanistan this year to 18, according to KIRO 7 news partner The News Tribune.
