Obama Administration hopes to expand leave for military families

WASHINGTON —

Military families would get more job protections under a plan from the Obama administration.

First Lady Michelle Obama announced the details Monday.  The plan would let family members of troops take up to 12 weeks of unpaid leave from work to help a service member deployed on short notice, and up to 26 weeks of leave to help care for recent veterans injured or hurt in the line of duty.

A father whose son lost his legs in an explosion in Afghanistan said caregivers need more help.

"You get that call -- everything is different. I dropped everything I had, lost my job, house, everything. Got to start back over," said Russ Hall.

The Obama Administration wants feedback before it makes the changes.
