Local Soldier's Christmas Gifts Disappear From Luggage

MONROE, Wash. —

A Monroe soldier is screaming foul after someone stole his Christmas gifts.

The missing presents were gifts to his family, but they mysteriously disappeared after he checked his bags at the airport.

That's the million dollar question: Where are the gifts?

The airlines aren't claiming responsibility and neither is TSA.

That's when US Army Sergeant Adam Millican called KIRO 7 Consumer Investigator David Quinlan for help.

Adam Millican couldn't imagine spending the holidays anywhere else.

After all, this was his first Christmas at home in six years.

"It's been a long time since I have been home. I'm a huge family person here," said Adam.

So when Adam, who's an E-5 Sergeant, and his girlfriend, Jennifer, landed in Seattle a week before Christmas, everything seemed perfect.

"We forked up a lot of money for the flight last minute and did some shopping and when we get here, everything is gone," said Adam.

Adam says nearly a dozen of his unwrapped Christmas gifts for his family were missing out of his bags.

A re-diffuser, soap, gift cards, candles, and a new sweat shirt were gone. Total cost: $250.

Money's tight for the couple, so they spent the remainder of their cash on new gifts for the family.

"I was shocked to see how my baggage was handled and the customer service we got after calling them up and getting nowhere," said Adam.

Adam says he checked in his bags with United ,and somewhere between Denver and Seattle someone went through his luggage and took the gifts.

He did find one present but it was ripped open and half of it was missing.

"It hurt a lot to have all those gifts stolen, the one time I finally get to come home for Christmas."

United says they never inspect passengers bags and claims its Transportation Security Administration issue.

The TSA say they're looking into it, but claim the airline carriers have more access to customer bags than they do.

Adam, who leaves for Colorado on Monday and then to Afghanistan in a few months, wishes only for his gifts back, or if nothing else, his money.

TSA confirms they did inspect Adam's bags and they checked the surveillance video at the Denver airport and said nothing was taken out of his bag.

As for United Airlines, they say they are willing to help out Adam if TSA can't find the missing items.
