SEATTLE —

Firefighters on Thursday rescued a man who tumbled down a 60-foot bluff at Carkeek Park in North Seattle.

Seattle Fire worked to get the 48-year-old man out of a steep ravine at the south end of the park as Chopper 7 fed back live video during KIRO 7 Eyewitness News at noon.

It was not clear how he got there, but a fire department spokesman said he had been there a long time before the rescue.

"He told us he was there overnight and he wasn't wearing hiking boots.  He was in flip-flops -- not really wearing hiking gear.  He was about a quarter mile down that trail.  According to him, he fell twice.  He fell about 15 feet down one and went down another about 30 or 40 feet down on another cliff ledge," said Kyle Moore of the Seattle Fire Department.

Video from Chopper 7 showed a man on lying on his back as a firefighters evaluated his injuries.

The man was stabilized and placed on a backboard.  Firefighters used ropes to get him out.

Once the man was out, at least a dozen firefighters  swarmed around the man.

He was carried out to a waiting ambulance.

The man was a little dehydrated. He was taken to Harborview Medical Center in stable condition.
