SEATTLE —

A man is recovering from burns after his couch caught fire in North Seattle.

Dustin Britt said he was trying to light a candle when his lighter exploded and the couch caught on fire at about 1 a.m. Wednesday.

Britt burned his arms while trying to douse the flames before they spread to his home on Third Avenue Northeast near Lakeside Middle School.

“I am in super pain right now. My arms are just so sore. I am going to be going to the hospital here in a few minutes,” said Britt.

Britt said he was able to put out the fire by dumping buckets of water on the flames.

Firefighters told Britt that though it wasn't safe to stay inside the home during the fire, he did save the house from being destroyed.
