Man Accused Of Luring Child In Chehalis

CHEHALISH, Wash. —

Chehalis police arrested a 43-year-old man on Tuesday for investigation of child luring after he tried to walk off with a 5-year-old boy at a city park, authorities said.

Detectives told KIRO 7 the man first started talking with a little girl on the swing set until her father intervened and told him to leave her alone.

Investigators said at that point, the man walked to a 5-year-old boy, struck up a conversation with him and eventually started walking away with him.

The father of the girl told police he witnessed what was happening, approached the man and child, and asked the boy if the man was his father.

When the child told the good Samaritan he did not know the man, the Samaritan stopped the man from leaving with the boy and called police, who arrested the man.

Chehalis police tell KIRO 7 they have received a number of other reports about the man in recent weeks exhibiting bizarre behavior and will be recommending that he receive a mental health evaluation.
