OLYMPIA, Wash. —
A man arrested Tuesday on suspicion of smashing into cars is allegedly part of the "Bump and Go Posse," a group that rams other drivers for fun, said Jim Chamberlain of the Thurston County Sheriffs Office.
Gil Contreras is accused of ramming into the back of unsuspecting drivers including a car in Tumwater, three more in the Lacey area and a police car in Olympia.
Tamarra Paradee said she was driving when her car was hit by Contreras and then pushed down the road hundreds of feet with her inside.
"I had my foot on the brakes and I was thinking to myself why isn't he stopping? Why isn't he stopping? I don't understand," Paradee said.
Contreras allegedly hit the vehicles before police chased him on Tuesday. A patrol car rammed in to Contreras SUV, causing it to spin out, but before it was all over Contreras rammed the patrol car, Chamberlain said.
Deputies said Contreras was intoxicated when he was arrested and said he's part of the group that targets drivers to smash into, all for the thrill.
"It's extremely dangerous to the public to have drivers out there hitting perfect strangers for no apparent reason," Chamberlain said.
Two people involved in Contreras' hit-run spree were taken to hospitals for treatment.
Contreras, 45, has been arrested on a charge of hit-and-run in the past and is on a deferred prosecution for hitting a driver in Pierce County in 2005. He also has a 1993 conviction for drunk driving.
He's being held in jail on $100,000.
Deputies are looking into other reckless driving complaints.
