THURSTON COUNTY, Wash. —
According to the Washington State Patrol, a Burlington man drove six miles on Interstate 5 in the wrong direction early Sunday morning in Thurston County. He was arrested after being pulled over.
KIRO 7 news partner The News Tribune reported at least eight people called 911 around 3:45 a.m., saying a driver was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes.
According to the WSP, the man exited the highway at Trosper Road, turned around and continued north in the same southbound lanes he was traveling on. After six miles, troopers pulled him over and arrested him.
Guy Gill of the WSP said the man wanted to go north from Seattle to his home, but drove to Tumwater before he realized he was traveling in the wrong direction.
The TNT said the man and his passenger were not injured.
"This has nothing to do with roadway design, characteristics, or signage. This happened because a driver made the decision to drive while impaired,” said Gill. "This guy is lucky he didn't kill himself or someone else."
