Man Arrested After Woman Assaulted On Capitol Hill

SEATTLE —

A man was arrested last week on Capitol Hill after he grabbed a woman from behind and assaulted her, the Seattle Police Department announced on Monday.

The woman was walking at about 3:28 a.m. last Monday on East Pine Street near Broadway Avenue when a man walked up behind her and grabbed her, police said. The man put his hand over the woman's eyes and mouth and told her to keep quiet. The woman yelled that she was calling 911, and the man hit her on the face above her right eye, and ran off.

Police showed up and interviewed the woman who gave them a description of the man, police said.

Police cordoned off Cal Anderson Park because they believed the man fled into the park, police said.

The man, 25, was found in some thick bushes behind a barb-wired fence after an "extraordinary effort" by the department's K-9 unit, police said.

The man was booked into the King County Jail for investigation of assault.

Police have not released any information tying the attack to other recent attacks on women in or near Seattle parks.
