MASON COUNTY, Wash. —
A man attacked another man Thursday afternoon with the back of a knife on a golf course in Allyn, police said.
The incident happened around 2 p.m. at the Lakeland Village Golf Course.
Harlan Olson, 77, was playing a round of golf with 64-year-old Steven Merick.
According to the Mason County Sheriff’s Office, Zachary Kauahi, 21, was under the influence when he came up from behind Olsonand hit him in the head with the handle of a knife.
After the attack, Kauahi fled the location into a wooded area.
The Sheriff’s Office said Olson declined medical aid.
Kauahi later walked out of the woods and turned himself in to deputies and told them he had been drinking all night. He also told investigators he threw the knife away.
Authorities said Kauahi provided a voluntary breath sample that registered a blood alcohol level of .122 percent.
Kauahi will be charged with second-degree assault and other possible charged are pending.
Olson and Emerick did not know the attacker.
