OLYMPIA, Wash. —
A man arrested by police said he was visiting a Thurston County woman to bring her a gift, but the woman hid and called 911.
When she called 911 Wednesday around 8:40 a.m., she said someone was breaking into her home.
The man suspected of breaking in to her home, Anthony Johnson, is a University of Washington student and someone that she met online a few weeks ago, she told police.
She said when they previously hung out, she sensed something not right about him, so she never replied to Johnson's calls and e-mails.
From the 911 call:
Dispatcher: "Can you tell me what's going on now?
Woman: "I'm in the closet. Just get here."
Dispatcher: I understand you're in the closet. Keep yourself safe.
Woman: He's in the house!
Dispatcher: I know he's in the house. I'm sending help, OK? I can't get them there super fast, you're going to have to keep yourself safe until they can get there."
Police said while the woman was calling for help the man walked in her bathroom and bedroom. Johnson was arrested as he was walking out of the house.
He told police he was leaving an envelope with a $100 as a gift, and he helped himself to use the woman's computer while she was hiding, police said.
Johnson said he was only bringing the woman a gift. Prosecutors are charging him with criminal trespassing.
Johnson asked to be released, so he could go back to school.
Currently, your honor, I'm getting ready to go into finals week," Johnson said.
The judge agreed to allow Johnson out on bail and ordered him to have no contact with the woman at all.
