SEATAC, Wash. —

A man who faked his own death and fled from Western Washington 23 years ago over theft accusations has been brought home to face justice, KIRO 7 Eyewitness News reported.

Run From Justice Ends

A scandal in Vader, Washington sent Robert Fluetsch on the run to Australia, New Zealand, London and Toronto -- until finally, he was arrested in Cincinnati last week.

The small-town school superintendent took off while on probation for the theft of $500 from school funds.

In 1979, Fluetsch faked his own death making it look like he drowned in the Cowlitz River.

He used phony passports and a string of lies as he traveled around the world for more than two decades, police said.

Last week, he flew into Cincinnati and customs spotted his fake passport. His life on the run ended.

Fluetsch arrived at Sea-Tac Airtport and was taken to the Lewis County jail Thursday. He was expected to make his first court appearance Friday.
