Man Charged In Bellevue Homicide

BELLEVUE, Wash. —

A man has been charged with second-degree murder in connection with the death of a Bellevue man.

Adan Rodriguez, 35, is charged with second-degree murder in the death of Emilio Perez-Olivia, 33, who was found April 21 in a wooded area near the Unigard Insurance Company in Bellevue.

A shoe print left on Perez-Olivia's face matched the shoes Rodriguez was wearing when he was arrested, probable cause documents said.

According to probable cause documents, the victim was last seen alive on surveillance video from a Bellevue convenience store just after he left his job for the day on Monday, April 20. Video showed Perez-Olivia with another man buying beer at the store.

The store owner said Perez-Olivia and the other man stood outside the store drinking beers.

The victim was not seen again until his body was discovered the next day.

Police showed the surveillance video of Perez-Olivia and the other man to a family member who was able to identify the man as the suspect, Rodriguez.

Police contacted Rodriguez when he was attending Perez-Olivia’s funeral on April 27.

After Rodriguez arrived at the Bellevue Police Department, he soon confessed that he killed Perez-Olivia.

Rodriguez initially lied about where he was Monday night, but when confronted with the lie, he confessed that he killed Perez-Olivia, the documents stated.

Rodiguez said he hit the victim in the face with his fists and then took Perez-Olivia’s belt and strangled him until he was dead, documents said.

Rodriguez said he killed him in self-defense and that Perez-Oliva said he wanted to kill him.

Police said the victim also had a shoe mark that matched the shoe print of Rodriguez, the same shoes he was wearing when he was arrested, documents said.

Police have not released a motivation for the slaying, but said robbery was not a factor in the victim’s death. Documents said Perez-Olivia had over $700 in his wallet when his body was found.

Police said Rodriguez is a non-U.S. citizen who has no legal paperwork to be in the country. Documents said he was working as a dishwasher at a Redmond restaurant.

Rodriguez was booked into jail on suspicion of second-degree murder.
