Man Dead After Confrontation With Police In Gold Bar

GOLD BAR, Wash. —

A 25-year-old Sultan man died after he was shocked with a stun gun during an overnight confrontation with Snohomish County sheriff's deputies in Gold Bar.

Everett police spokesman Sergeant Robert Goetz said Snohomish County sheriff's deputies were dispatched to the 500 block of First Avenue West in the Gold Bar area just after 1 a.m. Saturday for a report of a disturbance.

Police said 911 dispatchers received two calls about a man running up and down the street yelling and causing a disturbance.

According to Goetz, when the deputies arrived, they were immediately confronted by a combative man, identified as Adam Colliers, who charged the deputies and fought with them to the ground. One of the deputies deployed his Taser.

After the Taser deployment, the deputies discover the man was not breathing, immediately started CPR and called for aid, Goetz said.

When fire personnel arrived, they continued CPR and transported the man to Valley General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The man is associated with a home in the area and is said to stay at a home in the area on weekends, authorities said.

The Snohomish Multiple Agency Response Team is investigating. Investigators are interviewing witnesses in an effort to determine what may have caused the man to take the actions he did when the deputy arrived.

The cause and manner of death will be determined by the Snohomish County Medical Examiners Office.

As is standard procedure, the deputies have been placed on paid administrative leave.

The first deputy is 29-years-old with three years experience with the Sheriff's Office. The second is 26-years-old, has three years experience with the Sheriffs Office and one year with the King County Sheriff's Office.

Another man died Tuesday in Spanaway after police used a stun gun to subdue him when he refused to comply with their orders. His cause of death was inconclusive, the Medical Examiner said.

The death is the fifth in a week in police confrontations that turned violent.
