Snohomish County sheriff's spokeswoman Jan Jorgenson said the man is a Darrington resident. He is a former student, KIRO 7 Eyewitness News reported.

He was detained at 10 p.m. Tuesday as a result of an FBI investigation. Jorgenson said he was taken to a hospital for an evaluation and was later released.

She said he could face federal or state charges.

The email contained information about ingredients for a bomb, KIRO-TV reported.

Darrington schools were open Wednesday.

The Snohomish County town has 525 students in three buildings on one campus.

Schools were closed Monday and Tuesday because of threats e-mailed to teachers and administrators.

A bomb squad searched the buildings with a bomb-sniffing dog and found nothing.
