Man Killed In Possible DUI Crash In Federal Way

FEDERAL WAY, Wash. —

Police said a man was killed after another driver ran a red light in Federal Way early Wednesday.

Witnesses said a man driving a Chevrolet Suburban ran a red light at the intersection of South 320th Street and Pacific Highway South at about 2:30 a.m.

The Suburban hit the side of the victim’s Acura and the 21-year-old victim was likely killed on impact, officers said.

Federal Way police were able to verify that the driver of the Suburban ran a red light by looking at footage from what the city calls a “city safe” camera.

“It’s a wonderful tool and it’s also a deterrent for crime, and in this case, we were able to verify what the witnesses told us,” said Federal Way police Officer John Stieben.

The 35-year-old driver was arrested at the scene for investigation of vehicular homicide.

Police said the man showed signs of impairment. He was taken to a hospital to have his blood drawn.
