Man Pushed Off Cliff Into Green River Seriously Hurt

RAVENSDALE, Wash. —

King County sheriff's detectives are looking for witnesses who saw a 25-year-old man being shoved off a cliff and into the rocks next to the Green River.

Justin Billups of Gig Harbor suffered serious back injuries in the fall.

Police said the incident occurred about 4:15 p.m. on Sunday, July 25 at a park in the Ravensdale area.

Detectives said the 25-year-old and a friend were at Kanaskat-Palmer State Park when they noticed a 20 to 25 foot cliff and about a dozen people jumping off the cliff into the river. The two followed a trail to the top and Billups’ friend jumped off without injury.

When the victim hesitated, somebody behind him said “Don’t be a (expletive) just jump.” He was pushed off the cliff from behind, investigators said.

The person who pushed Billups has not been located or identified.

Police said the victim hit the rocks below before bouncing into the river. He was rescued by bystanders and has since undergone back surgery at Valley Medical Center where two rods and several screws were put this back. The victim is unable to put any weight on his broken foot and heel. More surgeries might be needed, authorities said.

Detectives ask anyone who saw the incident or can provide additional information to call the King County Sheriff's Office at 206-296-3311.

Donations to help pay for Billups’ medical bills can be made to the Justin P. Billups Donation Account at any KeyBank.
