SEATTLE —

A double amputee was seriously injured when a semi-truck hit his wheelchair at the intersection of 12th Avenue and Cherry Street overnight.

According to Seattle police, the accident happened around 1:30 a.m.

The driver of the semi-truck remained at the accident scene, speaking with officers.

It is unclear how fast the truck was driving at the time of the accident but when medics arrived they found a wheelchair lodged under the front wheel of the semi and the injured man down in the roadway.

Officers performed a drunken-driving evaluation on the driver of the semi, and no signs of impairment were found.

The unidentified injured man was taken to Harborview Medical Center for his injuries.

Police expect to have more information Friday morning.
