Mason County Police Investigating Double Murder Near Shelton

SHELTON —

A man and woman were found fatally shot

Friday on Hartstene Island, east of Shelton, in what Mason

County sheriff's officers describe as a double homicide.

The bodies

were found shortly before noon at a waterfront residence at the

south end of the island by a friend who had gone to visit. The

victims -- a woman probably in her 20s and a man believed to be in

his 40s -- were not immediately identified.

Dean Byrd, chief

detective for the Mason County sheriff's office, says investigators

believe they may have been husband and wife. No weapon was

immediately recovered, and investigators did not have any suspects.

Byrd said they were looking for one person who had apparently lived

on the property, which has about three houses and other

outbuildings. Byrd said he didn't immediately know whether there

were signs of a struggle in the home.
