MARYSVILLE, Wash. —
The 15-month-old boy named Dominico died sometime early Thursday, hours after suffering an injury at the apartment where he lived with his mother and her boyfriend.
Marysville toddler death - Dominico
While babysitting the toddler, the mother’s boyfriend said Dominico fell down a flight of stairs. He said the boy did not appear to be badly hurt.
During this time, police said the boy’s mother was working overnight at the Tulalip Casino complex until 3 a.m. When she got home and checked on him, he was still alive.
“They believed at the time no medical attention was needed. The baby was crying, the baby was eventually put to bed, the mother checked on the baby about three o'clock in the morning, and at that time the baby was still alive," said Marysville Police Commander Rob Lamoureux.
The couple told police that they got up at around 12:30 p.m. and when they went to check on the baby, he was dead, Lamoureux said.
Marysville Fire District crews said they were dispatched to the home in the 7400 block of 47th Avenue Northeast in Marysville just before 1 p.m.
Investigators said they don't believe there is any foul play involved.
The family told KIRO 7 Eyewitness News that the mother and boyfriend are cooperating with the investigation.
“Keisha, the mother, she's just a wonderful mom, a great mom. She's done a great job raising her son," said the toddler’s aunt, Crystal Reyes.
Investigators have questioned the boy’s mom, stepdad and other members of the family, but no one has been detained or under arrest.
