BREMERTON —

The aircraft carrier Carl Vinson was set to leave Bremerton Friday, but its departure was delayed by a last-minute problem with a seawater pump.

The aircraft carrier is expected to leave the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in a few days.

While the ship has no specific deployment orders, crew members are said to be packing for the long haul just in case the US goes to war with Iraq.

The Vinson will be training with its entire battle group, including the Bremerton-based USS Sacramento, a combat support ship, and the Everett-based USS Ingraham, a guided-missile frigate.

The Vinson was at sea on routine deployment when it was called into the war on terrorism in September of 2001.
