Men Accused Of Shooting, Abandoning Dog On Trial

A trial is under way for a father and son accused of shooting a dog and leaving it for dead last June.

The Rottweiler, named Maynard, was found paralyzed off a Forest Service road near North Bend.

The dog had to be euthanized.

Terrance Hedin and his adult son Travis face animal cruelty charges.

They were arrested after Pasado's Safe Haven posted a $12,000 reward.

On Wednesday, the groups' representatives rallied in the hallway outside the courtroom.

"A lot of these crimes that are committed against animals begin with someone abusing and injuring an animal and then they move on to a child and to people," said Amber Chenoweth with Pasado's Safe Haven.

Investigators said Terrance Hedin told them he wanted the dog dead because it bit his wife twice in two months.

If convicted, the Hedins could each be sentenced to five years in prison and ordered to pay a $10,000 fine.
