EVERETT, Wash. —

Three robbers disguised as sheriff's deputies broke into a Snohomish County apartment early Monday and robbed the man living there.

The three had fake badges and bullet-proof vests, and wore hats that said "sheriff," the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office said.

The three were armed with shotguns when they entered the apartment complex in the 3100 block of 164th Street Southwest near Lynnwood at about 1:45 a.m., deputies said.

They got away in the owner's 1994 black Lexus that later turned up in a vacant lot.

The three men remain at large.

The man living in the apartment was not hurt.

There was no indication that the robbers and victim knew each other, deputies said.
