Seattle police began searching for the missing child after he failed to return home from Coe Elementary School. A relative reported him missing Monday afternoon.

The boy was found just before 2 a.m. Tuesday not far from his home.

Police spokeswoman Deanna Nolette said he was tired, cold and wet, but otherwise unharmed. There's no evidence of a crime.

Police said the boy said he just wanted to see what it was like to be out at night.

The FBI and King County Search and Rescue helped police search through the night.

Missing eleven hours, the boy was found in a stairwell, about a block from his home.
