Mother Killed In South Kitsap Crash, Daughter Injured

KITSAP COUNTY, Wash. —

A 57-year-old Gig Harbor woman died when she was thrown from a vehicle during a collision, said Scott Wilson of the Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office.

The woman’s 21-year-old daughter was driving the vehicle, a 2000 Ford Escort, in the 3200 block of Southwest Lake Helena Road at Huckleberry Road Southwest when the incident happened shortly after 7:30 p.m. Sunday.

An initial investigation indicates the driver lost control of the vehicle and it left the roadway, hitting several trees, Wilson said. The vehicle went back on the roadway and came to a stop.

During the crash, the 57-year-old woman was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene from a head injury. The Kitsap County Coroner’s Office identified her as Diane Dorsey Racine, Wilson said.

Racine’s daughter was treated at the scene and taken to Saint Joseph’s Hospital in Tacoma for further evaluation.

Wilson said neither woman was wearing a seatbelt and it’s not known if alcohol or narcotics were contributing factors.

Anyone with information about this collision is asked to contact Deputy Andrew Aman, sheriff’s traffic unit, at 360-337-4634.
