Mother, Son Killed While Crossing Busy Highway

A mother and five-year-old son walking home from church were struck and killed by a pickup truck when they tried to cross Highway 169 at Renton.

Another member of the family, an eight-year-old son was bruised in last night's accident, and is recovering at the home of a family friend.

The State Patrol says the driver may have been drinking but that was not the immediate cause of the accident.

The driver of the 1997 Ford pickup, was not injured in the crash Monday night near the Maplewood Golf Course. The vehicle was stored at a towing yard.

Investigators said the weather was dry and clear at the time.
