Motorcyclist Escapes Death In Amazing Crash

KIRKLAND, Wash. —

A motorcyclist survived an unusual crash police said appeared to be caused by a drunken driver on Interstate 405 early Friday.

The Washington State Patrol said the crash happened shortly after midnight in Kirkland when the driver of a car rammed a motorcycle from behind.

The impact ejected the motorcyclist as the rear half of the bike became wedged under the car while remaining perfectly upright.

Police told KIRO 7 Eyewitness News reporter Rick Price they had never seen anything quite like it.

Troopers said the car dragged the motorcycle nearly a tenth of a mile.

The driver of the car, a 38-year-old Bothell woman, was arrested for investigation of DUI.

The motorcyclist was taken to Evergreen Medical Center with what troopers called road rash and to be checked for internal injuries. The man is expected to recover.

The crash and following investigation blocked the southbound HOV lane until about 2 a.m.
