National Weather Service Confirms Napavine Tornado

NAPAVINE, Wash. —

The National Weather Service confirmed it was, in fact, a tornado that caused damage and a lot of rattled nerves in Lewis County on Friday.

It happened around 2 p.m.just east of Napavine.

The survey team that traveled to the site rated the tornado an EF0, the weakest on the scale of zero to 5 with winds estimated at 75 mph.

They estimate the tornado was on the ground for less than two minutes, with a damage track 100 yards long and 30 yards wide. No one was hurt.

It was the first tornado in Washington state in 2011. On average, Washington state sees just one tornado in a given year.
