SEATTLE —
The Woodland Park Zoo will start displaying holiday lights this week, but many residents in the area are concerned about traffic.
For the first time, the zoo will showcase its holiday light display called Wildlights.
Zoo members will get a chance to see the lights throughout the week, and then the display will open to the general public on Friday.
The zoo is in the middle of a neighborhood and people who live nearby are worried the display could cause a traffic nightmare in the area.
KIRO 7 Eyewitness News reporter Graham Johnson spoke with Diane Duthweiler of the Phinney Ridge Community Council about the issue.
“If your neighbor has a party, you put up with a little inconvenience, but our neighbor is now having a party 40 nights in a row, and is doing very little to mitigate the traffic or the impacts on the neighborhood,” said Duthweiler.
A zoo spokesperson said they hope 57,000 people visit during the holiday season.
Managers at the zoo said the light display will bring in money during a slow time of the year to help pay for other programs.
