TACOMA, Wash. —
KIRO 7 Eyewitness News South Sound reporter Kevin McCarty sends this update regarding Wednesday's story about a naked woman found at a park in Tacoma:
It was about 1 p.m. Tuesday when a nanny taking care of some kids took them to Pt. Defiance Park for some outdoor play. She saw a naked woman tied to a tree about 150 feet off a path behind the picnic shelters at Owen Beach. She called 911.
Tacoma police responded with numerous patrol and detective units. There was concern the report was related to a recent sexual assault that took place at the nearby boathouse at the Point.
Police arrived to find a 19-year-old Gig Harbor woman, naked and exhausted, apparently engaged in a sex act with a 39-year-old Sammamish man. The two had stretched out a blue plastic tarp on the ground near the spot where the woman was first spotted tied to the tree.
Upon questioning by detectives, the two explained the meeting was consensual, and that they had attempted to move as far away from the path as possible to avoid being spotted by the public.
Police spokesman officer Mark Fulghum said there is no information in the police reports indicating how the two knew each other or why they had chosen to meet at Pt. Defiance, other than their admission that they liked to engage in outdoor sex.
Information was taken by detectives, who have forwarded it to Pierce County prosecutors who will decide whether or not the man and woman will face any criminal charges.
