A construction worker who fell to his death on a Seattle sidewalk had been sleeping in the restaurant building he was helping to renovate, police said.

Police, however, still don't know how or why he fell Wednesday from a balcony.

A passer-by found the body on the pavement below the upper balcony of the old Adriatica Restaurant about 5 a.m. Wednesday.

Cable wire running across the street had been snapped near where the body was discovered, investigators said.

As of Friday morning, investigators in the King County medical examiner's office had not released the man's identity, age or cause of death.

The Adriatica, a three-level Mediterranean dinner house, was closed in 2001 after more than 20 years in business and the building is now being remodeled.
