New Evidence Uncovered In Wenatchee Teen's Slaying

WENATCHEE, Wash. —

Detectives are working a new lead in the slaying of a teenage girl in Wenatchee earlier this month.

Police said cell phone records indicated Mackenzie Cowell was likely at the Wenatchee Riverfront Park boat ramp area shortly after she left a beauty school class Feb. 9.

The 17-year-old's body was found Feb. 13 along the Columbia River at Crescent Bar in Douglas County.

Police are asking for tips from anyone who may have been at the park that day, specifically in the area of the boat ramp or nearby parking lot, lawn area, bike path between 3 and 5 p.m. who may have noticed Cowell or her car.

Capt. Doug Jones said in statement Thursday members of the police task force investigating the death don't know why she was there or whom she may have met.

Police said the phone Cowell carried, an LG EnV2, was not in her car when it was found in Pitcher Canyon and was not on her body.

Jones said police have no suspects in the slaying.

The new information in the case came as nearly 2,000 people gathered Thursday in Wenatchee for a public memorial service.

Police asked anyone with information possibly related to the case to call the tip line at 509-663-9911.
