New Patrols for Local Firebug

SEDRO WOOLLEY, Wash. —

Police and firefighters patrolled the streets overnight... keeping an eye out for a firebug who set a string of fires Tuesday morning.

Residents left on porch lights. Some even say they have their guns ready after a string of arson fires destroyed one house, damaged another and burned at least 11 vehicles early Tuesday morning.

Fire Department Battalion Chief Gerald Chandler said no one was injured, although Police Chief Doug Wood said an elderly man suffered minor smoke inhalation.

In addition to the two homes, fires burned a garage and carport, Chandler said.

Most of the fires occurred around 3 a.m., but investigators found other fires that were set and went out on their own, he said.

ATF INVESTIGATION If you have any information about the fires, call the Seattle office of the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives at (206) 389-5800 or 1-800-55-ARSON.

Chandler said the fires were all within a seven or eight block radius in a residential area on the northeast side of the city about 50 miles north of Seattle.

Chandler said there were no suspects. A regional arson task force was investigating and has asked for help from the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

Chandler said there have been no other recent arsons in Sedro Woolley.
