Officers Fatally Shoot Suicidal Man In Tacoma

TACOMA, Wash. —

A suicidal man has been shot and killed by police in front of the RAM Restaurant and Brewery on the Tacoma waterfront.

Tacoma police spokesperson Mark Fulghum tells KIRO 7 Eyewitness News that the man was suicidal and despondent when officers were called to scene Saturday evening.

Fulghum said officers tried talking to the man, but were unsuccessful in getting him to calm down.

The man began waving a gun around in the parking lot of the restaurant before pointing it at the responding officers.

Officers opened fire and shot the man, who died on scene.

Ruston Way has been closed in the area of the RAM as police continue their investigation.

Fulghum said the officers involved in the shooting will be on standard paid administrative leave while the shooting is reviewed.
