OLYMPIA, Wash. —
An Olympia man is in police custody after he tried to blow up an apartment complex with a homemade bomb. Prosecutors said the man has also threatened to kill police officers, family members, and even strangers.
Police said Adam Wasankari used a propane tank, a phone book and an oven to try and trigger an explosion at his Tumwater apartment complex over the weekend.
Firefighters were able to put out the flames before anything exploded.
His family said hes a paranoid Schizophrenic, mentally ill and extremely dangerous. His aunt, Lori Wasankari, said he has threatening to kill her.
Prosecutors said Wasankari also threatened to kill police officers and he is accused of threatening to kill employees inside an AT&T store at Olympias Capitol Mall.
"He had a butcher knife in his coat and Adam argued with him about a refund and he told me if they told him no one more time he was going to paint his blood all over the wall," Lori Wasankari said.
She said Adam is extremely dangerous and needs significant mental health treatment. She said if he doesn't get it, she fears people will end getting killed.
"He's acting out and willing to hurt somebody because of his own pain. He will have no problem aiming a gun at a police officer and hoping they kill him. I think he wants to make the news," Lori Wasankari said.
Adam was in court Monday afternoon and the judge ordered that he be held without bail until he can undergo a "safe to be at large" mental health evaluation.
