KING COUNTY, Wash. —

Crews responded to a report of a man who overturned in his kayak into the Green River near Kanasket Palmer State Park, said King County Fire District 20.

The group of four kayakers had just made it through their first rapids when suddenly the man overturned, said one of the kayakers.

His friends were able to upright his kayak and bring him to shore. They said he was under the water for about 15 seconds.

Boo Turner, one of the kayakers, said a bystander who has some lifeguard training came over and helped the victim.

Crews said they had a difficult time reaching the man and had to use a high angle rescue and bring him up the 75 foot hillside before he could be transported to the hospital.

Rescuers said a medical condition made him lose consciousness and overturn. He was transported to the hospital in stable condition.
