Person Of Interest Met With Parole Officer Hours Before Shooting

SEATTLE —

A man wanted for questioning in a Seattle shooting that left a 19-year-old woman dead met with his parole officer 10 hours before the shooting, KIRO 7 Eyewitness News reported. Kenneth Wade Harding was fatally shot three days later by police in San Francisco.

Harding's grandmother told KIRO 7 Eyewitness News reporter Deborah Horne that Harding and his mother lived in San Francisco for a time before moving back to Seattle.

She also said Harding met with his community corrections officer at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, 10 hours before a gunman fired on a group of teenagers in South Seattle, killing 19-year-old Tanaya Gilbert and wounding three others.

Harding was released from Clallam County prison last April, one year after he was convicted of promoting prostitution.

Meanwhile, people who live in the San Francisco neighborhood where the shooting happened held a midday protest, demanding an independent FBI investigation of what they called an "unnecessary shooting."

Investigators said Harding fired on two officers after running away during a fare inspection on a light rail platform.

Police said amateur video showed a .45-caliber pistol they believe was used by Harding. Investigators said they recovered what appears to be the same weapon after it disappeared from the scene.

San Francisco police also said an audio recording of Saturday's shooting indicates Harding fired the first shot.

Police said a man seen in a video took the pistol from the shooting scene. They said they've recovered the weapon but that he also took shell casings and a cellphone.

A town hall meeting is set for Wednesday in the Bayview community to quell community concerns that it was an unprovoked shooting.

Investigators said it's unclear whether the gun they believe Harding used was used in the Seattle homicide case.
